The Johnny Cash 82nd Birthday Bash at Bell House (February 28 – March 1, 2014)

cashbashbanner (1)The Johnny Cash 82nd Birthday Bash returns to the Bell House with two nights of music on Friday, February 28, 2014 and Saturday, March 1, 2014. Both nights will be headlined by Alex Battles & The Whisky Rebellion and feature guest singers and classic films from archivist Clinton McClung.  This event has been a Brooklyn tradition since its inception in 2005.

Alex Battles played his first Johnny Cash tribute show a week after the Man In Black’s death in 2003. In 2004, he started The CasHank Hootenanny Jamboree, a monthly jam dedicated the music of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and other four-chord artists. The Johnny Cash Birthday Bash started in 2005 at a bar called Lillie’s on the Red Hook waterfront. From there the party moved to Southpaw in 2006, and finally to the Bell House in 2010.

This show has sold out every year since its inception. Advance tickets are strongly recommended. Fans may purchase individual tickets to Friday or Saturday or limited-edition two night passes for two nights of music. See you at the show!

The CasHank Hootennany Jamboree at Freddy’s Bar, May 2, 2013

There are songs that we know and love without knowing that we know and love them. At the CasHank Hootenanny Jamboree, we endeavour to play and sing as many of these songs as possible. Originally started as “a jam loud and easy enough for everyone to play along and not have to worry about making mistakes”, the CasHank continues it’s stomp-pick-and-holler along to the classics of country music on the first Thursday of every month at Freddy’s Bar on 5th Avenue in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn. A Best of NYC pick for the Village Voice as well as a New York Magazine Critic’s Pick, The CasHank has been a honky tonk institution in Brooklyn since 2004.  Festivities commence at 9pm on May 2, 2013.cashankbybettytsang

Alex Battles & The Whisky Rebellion, long suspected of making the records skip at everyone’s favorite private waterside honky tonk, will return there and do their best to shake the picnic tables and the concrete. Yea, it is so. At 10pm on May 31, 2013, the dogs upon high will beckon to their owners on Kent Ave. for just one more juicy Milk Bone at the Brooklyn Rod & Gun Club.

Duck! Rod's got a gun!
